Real Weddings in LB: Ke Li

For so many brides, the wedding day looks like a dream come true – but is actually the culmination of much planning and coordination. Real-life LB customer and newly-wed, Ke Li’s wedding journey encapsulates the fine balance between following your heart’s desires and planning what’s best for everyone.

Through her planning process, she learnt how to manage her own expectations while being realistic with her options. At the end of the wedding, the couple had a day full of beautiful, fond memories, surrounded by loved ones — and that’s all that truly matters.

Dive in for the full scoop.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about your wedding colours/theme?

We wanted to go with sage green, ivory and gold for our wedding, as I really like neutral colours. I spent a lot of time looking for ideas and colour palettes on Pinterest and was pleasantly surprised to find out that sage green is the trending wedding colour choice for 2018/2019. Sage green stood out to me as it was muted and special.

However, I felt that dressing my bridesmaids in more of the same shades might be a little “too much” as the solemnisation venue had a lot of greenery. I didn’t really want my bridesmaids to fade into the surroundings. Moreover, my bridal entourage was rather huge.

I decided to go with a lilac grey during the day cos it was neutral, lively yet still romantic. Similarly, I picked mauve for their second outfit as it was a dreamy colour which goes really well with the evening ambience. To top it all off, the mauve outfits matched the groomsmen’s outfits perfectly. Both colours chosen were great complements to my wedding colours and in this way, my bridesmaids got to stand out from the crowd.

Using complementary colours to tie in with my chosen colour creates more visual interest and unique touches to my overall wedding look and I really enjoyed exploring different colour combinations.

Q: How did you decide on your wedding venue?

I was super obsessed with the idea of having a garden solemnisation but it was not really the best idea as it is likely to rain during the year-end season in Singapore. At the same time, we needed to hold a traditional Chinese banquet. Amara Sanctuary Resort allowed us to have the best of both worlds! It had a unique all-glass pavilion and idyllic surroundings, all of which were perfect for our solemnisation.

Q: We’re so honoured to have been a part of your special day! Why did you decide to buy LYLAS for your bride tribe?

Everyone in my bride tribe wears Love Bonito whether for work or on casual days out. Sizing wasn’t an issue as everyone already knew their LB size. My bride tribe wore two outfits from the LYLAS collection – lilac grey for day & mauve for the night. For the lilac grey set, we opted for a 2 piece outfit with pants so that the girls could move around easily during the day.

It was the best decision as the girls could match tops of their choices with the pants. In this way, everyone felt comfortable wearing what they like. For evening solemnisation/dinner banquet, I wanted the girls to wear something flowy and elegant. Hence, the decision on the maxi tube dress and jumpsuit, entirely based on their preference. We decided on mauve cos it was unique and romantic.

We really liked the variety of designs and choices LYLAS provided. That was especially important for me as I wanted my bride tribe to feel as comfortable as possible, not restricting their preferences as much other than the colour itself.

Q: Celebrating your big day means making tons of decisions. What was your favourite part of the planning experience?

I enjoyed every bit of the customisation and personalisation process when it comes to curating our unique wedding invitations, wedding favours and of course my wedding gown. Seeing the final product gave me an indescribable sense of satisfaction!

Q: What did you not like about the planning experience & how did you work through it?

Many things went wrong during the planning process. Even our wedding coordinator changed twice in a short span of 6 months! It was tiring having to explain things over and over again and setting the right expectations. However, we constantly reminded ourselves to take a step back and to enjoy the process together.

Q: You and your hubby are adorable! Who was the most nervous on the big day?

Definitely me! I had to wake up at 12 midnight (due to auspicious timing) to start my makeup which was absolutely insane. I even resorted to taking drowsy medication so that I could force myself to fall asleep. Not only that, I was so afraid that I might fall while walking down the aisle cos the train of my dress was pretty long.

Q: If you could relive any moment during your wedding day, which would it be?

I enjoyed every single part of my wedding! But if I had to pick one, it would definitely be the surprise performance planned by my husband.

Q: Any final tips for other brides-to-be?

Balance your expectations. It is important to respect the opinions of your elders, but we also believe in choosing what your heart leads you to. Because of that, we had an amazing day filled beautiful memories and were happy and relieved when it was over. When it came to our budget, we made sure to set a realistic one while not skimping on what we truly wanted.
