Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about your wedding colours/theme?
We chose sunflowers and burgundy colours as our wedding theme.

Q: What was the inspiration behind them?
I wasn’t a fan of the usual pastel or muted palettes for weddings but prefer bright, vibrant and bold tones that give off a fun and light-hearted feel. The burgundy shade happens to be my favourite colour, so it was an obvious choice! Sunflowers have also always been my favourite flowers. They remind me of the importance of looking towards the light, and to spread hope and joy to the people around me, much like sunflowers do.

We also thought it would be fun to get our friends dressed up in Sesame Street outfits since I’ve always loved Sesame Street from young.

My husband actually proposed to me in an Elmo onesie a year ago, and he got two of his groomsmen to dress up as Elmo and Cookie Monster during the gatecrash!

Q: How did you decide on your wedding venue?
We held our holy matrimony at our home church, Bethesda Bedok-Tampines Church (BBTC). This was where my husband and I met and got to know each other.

Q: We’re so honoured to have been a part of your special day! Why did you decide to buy LYLAS for your bride tribe?
It was honestly a struggle to find bridesmaids outfits in burgundy for my bride tribe! We searched multiple blogshops and stores; most only sell shades of wine red, red or maroon which weren't quite what I was looking for. When the first LYLAS series was announced, my bridesmaids & I were excitedly waiting for the launch!

We went to the flagship store at 313@Somerset on the first day of launch and excitedly tried on the different designs in burgundy.

I loved that the material was good, the designs were versatile and unlike the typical bridesmaids dresses designs — which also meant that these outfits can be re-worn even after the wedding! Furthermore, the size range was wide and able to accommodate my bridesmaids, who are of different builds.

Q: Celebrating your big day means making tons of decisions. What was your favourite part of the planning experience?
Getting to know my husband and myself better as we pray together, discuss, quarrel over and finally make decisions together as a couple.

Q: What did you not like about the planning experience & how did you work through it?
Liaising with vendors who weren't professional. My husband & I helped each other to be mindful of the words we said and the body language used during those difficult conversations. We also prayed a lot, and adjusted our expectations accordingly. Thankfully, all went well on the actual day!

Q: You and your hubby are adorable! Who was the most nervous on the big day?
My husband, definitely! He prepared a special song item "I Wanna Grow Old With You" by Adam Sandler which was very sweet, especially because he doesn't usually sing!

Q: If you could relive any moment during your wedding day, which would it be?
The interactions with all our family, friends and loved ones who made the time and effort to witness our union! I wished I had more time to mingle around and thank those who were present.

Q: Any final tips for other brides-to-be?
Pace yourselves during the wedding preparation and adjust expectations accordingly! Ultimately, the wedding lasts only for a day but the marriage lasts a lifetime. So spend time going out on dates amidst the planning, and focus on building a stronger foundation in your relationship. And lastly, remember to enjoy the process!
